A Confession About False Assurance, Quiet Deception, and the Mercy of Awakening
Comfortable, Blessed — and Deceived
I used to believe I was going to Heaven because I knew God’s name; Jesus was real to me. I even thanked Him in prayer. And life? It wasn’t perfect, but it was good. I had provision and peace. In fact, I saw every blessing as a sign that I was spiritually safe. Then I discovered the Love that exposed my false assurance. It transformed everything I thought “I knew.” I thought comfort was confirmation, favor meant forgiveness, and belief was enough. Boy was I way off base! I wasn’t even on the same field the game was being played on. YIKES!
I didn’t realize I was living under a global deception — one that still grips the hearts of millions. Until someone shared the Gospel with me.
Not the soft version I was used to…but the real, raw, unshakable truth that Jesus never sugarcoated.
The Plot Twist I Never Saw Coming
This person wasn’t aggressive or judgmental. They simply shared a Truth that I’ll never forget:
“Jesus cares for your soul so much that even at 2 am He will make a way for you to be baptized and added to His Body.”
I went silent as the building of lies that I once resided in, came crashing down before my eyes. I stalled because I couldn’t deny the truth:
I believed in God…
…but I lived like I didn’t need Him.
I talked about Jesus…
…but I didn’t actually follow Him.
And right then, I realized: I wasn’t safe. I was self-deceived. Having just lost my husband two months prior, unexpectedly, I knew time was of the essence. At that very moment of realization I stated, “It’s 2 am. Lets go!” On August 20, 2021 at 8 pm I was baptized and added to Christ’s church.
When Blessings Blind You to Your Soul’s Condition
Before that moment of clarity and freedom, I had mistaken God’s mercy for His approval. Using and abusing His patience as permission.
“Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?” (Romans 2:4 ESV)
I can see clearly now the lies are gone. God was blessing me not because I was right with Him…but because He was giving me time to return to Him. He was withholding judgment, not offering endorsement.
The Scariest Words in the Bible
I later return to a passage that always chills me to my core — words I had heard before but never resonated with me the way it did following my baptism:
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven… I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.’” (Matthew 7:21–23 ESV)
It hit me, these workers of lawlessness weren’t unbelievers. They were individuals who thought they were saved simply because they called Jesus ‘Lord’ and even did ‘religious’ things.
But Jesus rejected them — not because they never heard of Him, but because they never surrendered to Him. And I saw myself in that passage.
What Does It Really Mean to Be Saved?
My soul salvation/your soul salvation is not about being religious. Heck, it isn’t even about believing God exists or doing good things.
True salvation is a death and resurrection.
It is being born again — changed, cleansed, and committed.
It is obeying Christ, not just admiring Him.
It is walking in the light — and turning from the darkness I once called normal.
True salvation is a death and resurrection. It’s not about turning over a new leaf — it’s about burying the old one. It means dying to self: your desires, your will, your pride, and your sin. And being raised — not to a slightly better version of yourself, but to a completely new life in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit.
It is being born again — changed in heart, cleansed by grace, and committed in obedience. Not just a moment of emotion or a whispered prayer, but a complete spiritual rebirth that changes the direction of your life.
It is obeying Christ, not just admiring Him from afar. Obedience is not legalism — it’s love expressed through action. Jesus said, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15 ESV). If there is no obedience, there is no evidence of true surrender.
It is walking in the light — no longer hiding behind excuses, but exposing every part of your life to God’s truth. It’s renouncing the sin you once justified, the habits you once loved, and the darkness you once called normal. True salvation calls us out of deception and into transformation — and with it comes the daily responsibility to walk in step with the Spirit, to deny ourselves, and to live as people truly set apart.
True faith doesn’t just believe — it follows.
A Message to the One Still Living How I Once Did
If you’re reading this and wondering if it’s too late, it’s not because if you’re reading this it means you’re still alive. If you feel something stirring in your heart, don’t ignore it. I was you. I thought I was fine. But the truth, I was lost — and didn’t even know it.
God’s grace woke me up before it was too late. And I’m praying He uses these words to do the same for you.
Here’s the plot twist no one tells you:
You can be blessed… and still be bound.
You can have peace… and still be perishing.
You can feel loved… and still be lost.
Heaven isn’t about feelings. It’s about faith that obeys (Hebrews 5:9 ESV), love that submits, and grace that transforms.
Don’t let the enemy rock you to sleep with comfort while your soul silently cries out for truth.
God Is Still Extending His Hand
The Jesus who saved me wants to save you. The Spirit who convicted me is still speaking. The Father who gave me time is giving you time right now. But the door will not stay open forever. And tomorrow is not promised.
Jesus is calling.
He is waiting.
But He will not wait forever.
Final Confession
I thank God for the person who cared more about my eternity than my comfort. I want to be that voice for someone else now. If you’re reading this, and you’re not sure if you’re truly saved — please don’t stay silent.
